Two new Pueblo judges will be sworn in this June

Two Pueblo attorneys have been appointed to positions within the Pueblo Combined Court by Gov. Jared Polis as of June 13.

Margaret Vellar was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of David L. Lobato, a judge in the Pueblo Municipal Court. Lobato has served in this capacity since 2012, and will vacate his position on July 1.

Vellar currently serves as a chief deputy district attorney in the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, which serves Colorado Springs, among other cities. She has held the position since 2013.

She was named the 2019 Colorado District Attorneys’ Council Prosecutor of the Year and earned her bachelor of arts from the University of Colorado in 1986 and her juris doctorate from the University of Colorado Law School in 1989.

Vellar will be sworn in to the position on June 25.
