Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Sunday accused President Biden of abandoning “the rule of law” at the US border, saying the Lone Star State is literally paying the price for the immigrant surge there.
Abbott, who blamed the Biden administration’s policies for causing the crisis, said Texas may have to dole out up to $1 billion this year for border security, health costs and education.
“It shows that President Biden’s approach to this is to abandon the rule of law,” Abbott said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” adding that the “root cause” of the border crisis is “lack of border security.”
“Our state legislature, they allocated about $800 million every two years for the state to pay for this,” the Republican governor said. “This year, because of the extended time that we will have the National Guard on the border, it likely will clearly exceed a billion dollars for the state to have to secure the United States of America.”
“The first 100 days of the Biden administration, they’ve been great for the cartels, for the gangs, for the human traffickers who have been exploiting the borders,” he added.
Biden has come under fire for the surge in immigrants crossing the border illegally, including an influx of unaccompanied children.
Last week, Vice President Harris said she is working to identify the “root cause” of the surge in immigrants at the US border with Mexico.
Abbott said he has not spoken to Biden about the border crisis.
