From Doing Right to Going Rogue.
I acknowledge that the US was racist in 1902 and Manhattan Beach being part of the US was also racist. To not have known or not acknowledge is just not being truthful.
I followed the formation of the Bruce’s Beach Task Force and either attended or viewed the meetings and look forward to seeing a plaque, art piece and accurate history.
I BELIEVED Council members, who were elected to represent all residents, when they said the taskforce can only make recommendations and everything must be approved by the full City Council.
It has come to my attention that the Task Force with the knowledge of the co-chairs has a forum planned that is being advertised by the City of Manhattan Beach on the City web site.. The topic will be Bruce’s Beach Rediscovered.
All week we have been reading on this very social media site, that anything the Task force does has to go to the full city council. We have been told that nothing has been finalized, everything is a draft
So what happened ? What is the truth? What is the real agenda?
I have asked the City council the following:
When was this discussed. Please point to the specific BBTF meeting and provide date and time point.
I was under the impression everything the BBTF did had to be approved by the CC. Please point to the specific CC meeting where this was discussed and approved.
What is the cost of this program?
What will be presented?
Who has reviewed and approved the content?
To those of you who raised concerns about the scope an intent of Bruce’s Beach task force, you were right. We the residents were too trusting of our elected officials, we need to pay attention.
Please join me in writing to the full City Council and demanding the Task Force produce an art plaque, piece of art and accurate history that is presented to the City Council for full review, before anything is done by the Task Force.
Let’s not make a tragedy of the past an excuse for a despicable power grab in the present.
To side step this process is an affront to the voting tax paying residents of Manhattan Beach.
